Javanese.OriginThe breed originated from the island of Java, Indonesia and was probably in use for centuries and used for religious and mystic rites. They were first described by Dutch colonial settlers. It was first imported into Europe in 1998 by Dutch breeder Jan Steverink. Currently stocks are kept in the Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. It is thought that Ayam Cemani may also earlier have been brought to Europe by Dutch seamen who had numerous contacts in both Africa and Asia. This is a landrace and lots of variation in color is possible as in any breed you will get throwbacks.American Ayam Cemani Hatching eggs $55 for 12I spent 3 years with many disappointments and many expenses trying to find acceptable stock for my cemani project and it is just starting. At this point I'd like to share some of their eggs to give everybody an opportunity to own this exotic landrace. Cemani is all GFF from 4 different breeders all black, which does not guarantee all black chicks.- tan egg The Cemani was created from several different landraces in different parts of the world, that's why there are still a lot of differences and is not anywhere near standard of perfection. Deviations from the breeds ideal should be expected. They still need a lot of breeding and we don't know what was injected in other countries as Germany, where some of GFF's Cemani came from. if you would like to find out more about the history there is an interesting read from a highly studied poultier on BYC. Type in your search and the page should come up. the Blackest Ones: on exploring the significance of Cemani mutationsI do not get any white feathers on my chicks, I do get some occasional clear nails, but i have less then 10% culls right now. But no guarantee on this. That is a very low leakage and cull rate i am very happy with and that is very hard to find.I have added a pair of true Indonesian Cemanis, which will make a tremendous difference in future breedings. They usually breed all black with very few exceptions. There maybe 5 people in the US that have this exotic true strain directly from Indonesia. The local people say if it is not black it is not Cemani and in their country they always breed black. Coming soon!will ship
